Welcome

The Can’t Monster is a children’s picture book about a young boy who learns to confront his fears, deal with adversity, accept responsibility for his actions, and find the courage to try again. It is now available for sale through Olympia Publishers, Amazon.com, and other fine retailers. This website is the grown-up treatment of those themes, intended for parents, current and future educators, and anyone interested in character education and related topics. My intent for this site is threefold.

First, I want to share the story behind The Can’t Monster, including how it came to be, and why it means so much to me. Think of this as a virtual, and constantly evolving, author event or book talk. Some of this content is already available on the blog section of this website, with more to follow.

Next, I hope to explore the themes addressed in the book from a character education perspective. For a story containing fewer than 700 words, there is a lot to discuss. Over time, I plan to expand this discussion into other character-related themes. If all goes well, I’ll share ideas and resources for how to explore character in the classroom, in the workplace, or at home. It’s possible I will even solicit such ideas from readers like you. Note: As of this posting, the “Resources” section of the site is still under development.

Lastly, I hope to use this forum to communicate with my readers and others with similar interests. Starting out, I have no idea whether this is a reasonable expectation or not. Time will tell but, if you’ve made it this far, I’ll take that as a good sign.

Thanks for visiting!

Chris
